Welcome to
The Welding Mentor CIC

The Welding Mentor CIC is a community interest company with a focus on helping black women learn new skills that foster creativity, self-expression.

Powerful skills shouldn't have limitations, especially not by gender and ethnicity, but yet less than 10% of welders in the UK are black and less than 4% are women!

The Welding Mentor CIC aims to change that.

We want to make welding more accessible and encourage more women to join the industry.

But why would I want to learn how to weld?

I get it, welding has always been painted as a "manly" job and the expression "male, pale and stale" comes to mind.

But metal work isn't just for men. We work with women who want to learn welding for a variety of reasons:

- To create new and interesting pieces of artwork
- To create frames for costumes for carnival/dance or theatre
- To create unique ornaments
- To create bespoke furniture
- To create jewellery

Welding is, to put it simply "sticking metal together" so the possibilities of what you can make are endless!

He has worked in welding for over 13 years now and he's a proud member of the Leeds West Indian community.
Ramel has spent the last three years working closely with Leeds West Indian Carnival founder, Sir Arthur France and his team, helping create costume frames for Leeds West Indian carnival.

This has meant Ramel has worked with a lot of costume designers and has met a lot of women who have asked if he will teach them how to weld so they can offer a full costume creation service.
